20 songs…

I will post soon about the Ash and PP shows. They were fun… comedy… adventurous. I miss Ash so much already. For now… snagged from Kim:

Post the names of 20 of your favorite musicians
See who can guess which is your favorite song by each.
Once someone guesses right, bold that row and include the song.

1. Duran Duran – The Chauffeur
2. Blur
3. James
4. Ash
5. Phantom Planet – All Over Again
6. New Order
7. Fiona Apple
8. Madonna
9. Coldplay – The Scientist
10. The Cure
11. Jeff Buckley
12. French Kicks
13. Franz Ferdinand
14. Interpol
15. Pet Shop Boys – Always On My Mind
16. Joy Division
17. The Hives
18. Radiohead
19. The Rapture – Out of the Races and On to the Tracks
20. Weezer

Whew… quite a few left off the list but there it goes. Anyone want to play?

i miss that stupid ache

Listening to Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine album. Only 2 tracks had been leaked months ago but the entire album is out there online. It’s everything I imagined it would be and more. Raw, aggressive, beautiful, and another step forward. She’s grown so much as a songwriter from her last album and it shows. It’s really incredible and breaks my heart that it’s being held hostage by Sony and there’s nothing that can seemingly be done about it.

There’s plenty of ways now to get the album. It’s just such a frustrating example of how much the music label industry is failing. Fans can’t go out and buy an album they want to spend money on. An artist is stifled by a contract that does not allow her to own her own music. And a label that doesn’t care what it’s depriving the world of.

nothing to lose, nothing to gain

Saw Graham Coxon Saturday at the Troubadour. Amazing show. He played songs from all 5 of his solo albums. I think the set list had about 20 songs. I was in heaven since he played many of my favorites like Bitter Tears and I Wish. And in true Graham fashion he ended the show with a rocking version of Who The Fuck…?

I got a promo card signed and got to take a photo with him after the show. I was so nervous when I talked to him. And he was sweet as could be. Photos forthcoming.

So I finally got to see him solo and meet the man. Life is grand.

winter wonderland

snow dino!!
Remi petting the snow puppy
snow homicide
snow birdie
snow man
the sun poking out in the hills of CA

Oh, I’m lame and forgot to thank all of you who commented and sent me sweet emails regarding our little courthouse wedding. I’ll post photos when I grab them from my mom’s camera. They turned out pretty sweet. Of course, I’m not in a white dress and Remi’s not in a tux but we look crazy in love all the same.

my obsessive fascination is in your imagination

the road ahead

Finally getting around to posting some photos. Here’s a few from the road trip up to get Remi in early January. We had to take the long way… which turned out to be a beautiful drive (minus the moments of hail, fog, and snow) along the 101 to Oregon. We stopped for the night in Crescent City. I was sad we didn’t see any Ewoks. But we did see lots of redwood trees and elk. We cut over in Oregon on some small highway to get back to the 5. I’d love to take that trip again but at a much slower pace to stop in some of the tiny towns we passed through and see more of the gorgeous beaches and woods. And go when the weather is far calmer too.

and if the fires burn out, there’s only fire to blame

Duran Duran madness in full effect. Showed up to Staples Center last Saturday with no ticket but ended up with free 7th row center tickets by the time Duran came on stage. Duranie karma is a good thing indeed! We had an amazing time and it was one of the better DD shows I’ve ever been privileged to attend. They played Hold Back the Rain, Tiger Tiger, and The Chauffeur. Plus they showed the anime cartoon during Careless Memories. It was incredible. Jimmy Kimmel on the other hand… we went but they treat most of the regular audience like crap and we could barely see anything. Just thinking about our Staples experience to make up for that disappointment.

Got to go to NPR West for an interview with CBC radio a couple of weeks ago. Very snazzy building. Crazy to sit in a studio with headphones on and asked questions like I’m somebody. It aired last week. I have no idea how lame I sounded since they didn’t archive my interview. Next up is a quote from me in the next Star Wars Insider and I’m featured in some big Reader’s Digest story that will be coming out in May. Just got off the phone with their fact checker.

Sending off the next round of INS paperwork for Remi. It’s going to cost a lot for all the applications but I’ll be relieved once I get to the post office and mail the package off. It’s out of our hands at that point and we just have to wait to hear back from them… and then Remi can start looking for a job.

Oh, the Hot Hot Heat show last Friday was a lot of fun. The crowd was pretty weak but the band was tight (minus Dante but with a great new guitar player) and sounded great. The new songs in particular came off really well. They were taping the show. Probably for DVD footage or something. Morrissey was there. I’m not even really a fan but even my heart started pumping fast when I saw him. And Steve… please, for the love of all things rock, cut your bird’s nest. Now. It’s beyond out of control. Thank you.
