losing touch

Laura is mad at me for not telling her about Jason Schwartzman’s new project/band/whatevs. Apparently Zooey Deschanel sings on it. But I simply had no clue. And according to Wikipedia, Jason was originally cast as the lead in Donnie Darko. WTF!? I also didn’t know about Wes Anderson’s new film. I’m so out of touch. The end.

(woot)

I’m writing this from my brand new toy.

It’s so pretty and awesome… with 2 flat panel widescreen monitors too.

We ordered it last week and it arrived today. And now… I can definitely say we’re completely spoiled.

Finally. After 6 years, a new computer for us. I’ve had a great new scanner for almost 2 years now that’s never been hooked up to my old computer (which is still running windows 98.) I can’t wait to get things all up and running. And go mad with ideas. Can’t wait! :)

shall I always be left behind when the riders depart

I spent this past weekend and a day at a hotel in Burbank. I meant to post this yesterday but ran out of time.

Another ORC speed by, and now it’s all over. Back to work. Back to real life. Sigh.

as the scenery grows, I see in different lights

Reply and I’ll give you a letter. Find ten songs that start with that letter and post them to your journal.

My letter is N from 07six10. However, I don’t have the means to burn them all and post them at the moment. So I may eventually edit the post later on. Here goes…

  • Notorious – Duran Duran
  • No Distance Left To Run – Blur
  • No Good Time – Graham Coxon
  • Never Is A Promise – Fiona Apple
  • No Sign of Life – OK Go
  • Northern Star – Leona Naess
  • No Love Lost – Joy Division
  • Never Saw It Coming – Jesus and Mary Chain
  • Never-ending Road – Loreena McKennitt
  • Never Let Me Down – Depeche Mode

Funny that out of those 10 songs, 4 start with the word “no” and 4 start with the word “never”.

made my skin a little bit thicker

Last night, Eddie and I saw Christina Aguilera at the Staples Center. It was last minute. We didn’t even have tickets… but we scored center floor tickets a few minutes after the doors were open. I swear, we have this crazy good luck when it comes to the Staples Center.

The concert was incredible. She did such a fabulous job… looking super hot in her numerous Cavalli outfits. Every one was gorgeous… I lost count around the 8th costume change. The girl can sing and put on an entertaining and well thought show. The detail in the costumes and dancing to the set design were just spot on. We were completely impressed. And we totally lost our minds when she launched into “Dirrty” riding on top of a carousel horse! No words! Just love the camp and fun.

The crowd was a really weird mixture. Lots of girls, women with boyfriends, and of course plenty of gay men who ran the spectrum of indie to diva. It was like being at a Madonna concert.

After the encore, we were slowly making our way off the floor when we saw Joe McIntyre walking along with his super skinny wife. He looked so hot. Sigh. Then we turned around and saw Linda Perry walk by us looking cute. No one else seemed to notice.

As we walked back to our cars, there was two men in front of us holding hands. A tshirt scalper was trying to unload his $5 wares and his attempt with the couple in front of us was, “It’s a perfect size for a girl. Which one is the girl? Which one is the bitch?” My jaw dropped while they started laughing. Never heard that one before.

no dancing in mansions

Last night was just what I needed. Though I did end the night with an extremely sore good leg (from relying on it way too much – maybe I need a fancy cane)… I came away with a new crush and a favorite new band. Plus it was nice to see some friends and just soak up a good show.

Icebird were fun… though I don’t know how they managed to play the show in full polyester sasquatch get up. Half way through, Barry tore the mask off. They probably lost 10 pounds.

Then came Scissors For Lefty. They are unsigned here in the States but are signed to Rough Trade overseas. And wow. Fun, dancey, catchy, and just fell hard for their music. The lead singer, Bryan, has a very charming vocal style. A little glammy but then the music is like a mixture of Blur and um… Rapture… and I don’t know. I’m not good at going into depth of influences in music. All I know is I totally dug them. I can’t stop listening to the EP I snagged for 5 bucks.

I’m completely tempted to go down to see them and FK in San Diego Saturday night. They were that good plus… I wouldn’t mind seeing French Kicks again. Their set was a little more laid back compared to the last time I saw them. They played several new songs and cover of a Fleetwood Mac song. The name of which escapes me at the moment. I always enjoy seeing them live and this was no different. Now… so tempted to go to SD…

More news about my knee saga… my mri was clean. The doctor thinks the scar tissue build up is what is causing the pain. Will have to work even harder in PT and he gave me a cortisone shot to help with the healing process and dissolve the scar tissue. It hurt like hell… still throbbing. But it’s another step to getting better. Crosses fingers.
