just my luck

From 10/23:

Sigh. Of all things to be happening the night before I fly to New York!!!!

Warner Bros Pictures, Richard Barton Lewis and Americans for the Arts are presenting a special benefit concert, “August Rush – A Celebration of Music”, featuring music from “August Rush”. The concert is being held at the NY City Center on Friday, November 9th at 8:30pm and benefits Americans for the Arts. Along with Freddie Highmore and Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also scheduled to perform! Ticket prices start at $50.

Why couldn’t this be on the Sunday while I’m there?

I’ve been considering changing my flight on and off all day. One minute I’m set on going. It’s not terribly expensive to change my flight… then the next minute, I’m like nah, I don’t need to do this. It’s an extra day I need to get off work, another night that I’d need to find a place to stay, and another concert ticket to purchase. There’s two things holding me back. The ticket price for the concert is expensive when I’d end up sitting in the balcony in the 7th row. And there’s no guarantee that Jonathan is going to be there and that he’s actually going to sing. What if he doesn’t show or what if he does only to introduce a musical act? I spend all this extra effort for nothing? Then I think I’ll totally regret not trying if this turns out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Sigh. I honestly don’t know what I’ll end up doing. I keep making up my mind and then changing it. I’ve been so preoccupied by this that I forgot I have a ticket to see Jesus & Mary Chain tonight. Ridiculous.

Immersing myself in work and reading up on the fire reports now. The air smelled a bit smoky when I rode into work today. And the sunsets have been rather spectacular. I’m far from any of the actual fires myself but hope that everyone near them stays safe.

For some reason this post got marked private and was never posted. Oops. Made it to the Jesus & Mary Chain show (crowd sucked, Jim Reid was beautiful, overall sound mix was off, but still glad I went). And am in now in the “it’s not meant to be” frame of mind about the “August Rush” concert. Sigh. And yesterday, the ash started falling in my area from the Malibu fires.
