where is the life that I recognize

Got back from NY last week. Whirlwind of getting caught up with work, finishing up a big project, spending time with my boy, and decompressing from my insane trip.

Eddie declared this the Duran Duran Bipolar Tour of 2007. First bad news, then good, then bad, then good. It was pretty ridiculous. Saturday was a day for disappointment and disbelief. Travel all the way to NY to hear about the strike and canceled shows. Sob on sidewalk in middle of Chinatown. What the fuck is going on?

walking through winter time and the stars all shine

I leave for NY in 11 days.

I’m trying not to be bummed that I’m not going to the “August Rush” concert. I make it harder for myself when I can’t stop listening to this beautiful song over and over. Le sigh.

But then I snap out of it. I mean, I’m going to New York City with my best buds where I’m going to see my favorite band on the planet perform my favorite music on Broadway. I’m going to not one, but three shows. The set lists for the preview shows DD did in Connecticut are killing me. I have to pinch myself to know I’m not dreaming this trip up.

Back to Jonny… I’m not sure what I think about him starring as the lead in a “comic book movie”. It’s an independently financed one. Which could be a very good or bad thing. At least he’s playing a magician and that has the potential to be very sexy (see “The Illusionist” and “The Prestige”).

In other news, today has been a weird day. I hurt my hand by smacking it against a big SUV side mirror that was sticking out while I was riding my bike. Of course the car wasn’t hurt, but my pinky finger swelled up and instantly turned blue. When I got to work, I managed to ice it down but it still stings and aches. I’m surprised this hasn’t happened before now. I’m such a dork. And work… well, this one project is going to destroy a little piece of my soul. I’ll just leave it at that.

This trip to NY can’t come at a better time.

Sidenote: Posted some new photos… BrickCon in Seattle, pumpkin time with my nephews, pumpkin carving with my friends, and when we went up north for my nephew’s baptism in August. I still haven’t finished putting up our road trip photos. Some day, some day.

just my luck

From 10/23:

Sigh. Of all things to be happening the night before I fly to New York!!!!

Warner Bros Pictures, Richard Barton Lewis and Americans for the Arts are presenting a special benefit concert, “August Rush – A Celebration of Music”, featuring music from “August Rush”. The concert is being held at the NY City Center on Friday, November 9th at 8:30pm and benefits Americans for the Arts. Along with Freddie Highmore and Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers is also scheduled to perform! Ticket prices start at $50.

Why couldn’t this be on the Sunday while I’m there?

I’ve been considering changing my flight on and off all day. One minute I’m set on going. It’s not terribly expensive to change my flight… then the next minute, I’m like nah, I don’t need to do this. It’s an extra day I need to get off work, another night that I’d need to find a place to stay, and another concert ticket to purchase. There’s two things holding me back. The ticket price for the concert is expensive when I’d end up sitting in the balcony in the 7th row. And there’s no guarantee that Jonathan is going to be there and that he’s actually going to sing. What if he doesn’t show or what if he does only to introduce a musical act? I spend all this extra effort for nothing? Then I think I’ll totally regret not trying if this turns out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Sigh. I honestly don’t know what I’ll end up doing. I keep making up my mind and then changing it. I’ve been so preoccupied by this that I forgot I have a ticket to see Jesus & Mary Chain tonight. Ridiculous.

Immersing myself in work and reading up on the fire reports now. The air smelled a bit smoky when I rode into work today. And the sunsets have been rather spectacular. I’m far from any of the actual fires myself but hope that everyone near them stays safe.

From 10/25:

For some reason this post got marked private and was never posted. Oops. Made it to the Jesus & Mary Chain show (crowd sucked, Jim Reid was beautiful, overall sound mix was off, but still glad I went). And am in now in the “it’s not meant to be” frame of mind about the “August Rush” concert. Sigh. And yesterday, the ash started falling in my area from the Malibu fires.

fangirl moment

Excuse me while I have a serious fangirl squeeing moment.

The trailer for “August Rush” is online.

Dying, dying, dying some more.

We’ve been waiting for this one for a long while now… it comes out October 19. And the wait looks like it will be well worth it.

I haven’t been this excited for a trailer since “Across the Universe” or “The Golden Compass”. Okay, so those are not that long ago… But apart from those movies, “August Rush” is at the top of the list of movies I can’t wait to see this year.

It looks stunning. I love the cast and Jonny sings and plays guitar. You can hear him in the trailer.

It really looks incredible and the preview footage is getting great buzz online too.

Ok, off to watch it again. And again… and… :)

set times

Coachella set times went up last night. So early this year. Heh.

Need time to digest.

This week is MADNESS as I get ready for the big weekend of sun, fun, and music. Doesn’t help that I had to post about this today. Sigh.

crazy

This last week was hectic (work, real life, taxes, the continuing clean up of our condo). Crazy, mind-exploding hectic. I keep wanting to post but then getting sidetracked by so many things competing for time and attention. I started this post days ago and only now am finishing it up.

2007 already!?

December went by so fast… and now it’s already the 2nd day of the new year.

Insanity.

Happy new year to all my amazing and lovely friends out there!

Will post more boring details on what’s been going on with me when I get the chance later… for now, just drooling over new images of JRM. Poor kid is filming over in China and has been rather sick for most of the shoot… But he still manages to look amazing even when losing weight and with the flu. Or maybe it’s my Jonny-colored glasses… I really just can’t help it.

live journal

So I’m testing out a new plugin that allows me to crosspost from my blog to my livejournal account. Since I know a lot of my friends use lj a lot more then visiting blogs, this might be helpful… or not. But it’s also an experiment for me to see if I can get this to work for my JRMfansite. I’ve also finally upgraded WP to the latest version. And will probably put up a new template one of these days. When I’ve got the time. Oh the time…
