The Fall is one of the most amazing movies I’ve seen in years… or ever. Saw it at the Landmark last night presented in perfect digital detail. If you loved Mirrormask or any Terry Gilliam movie, then I’d say go now to see this beautiful, imaginative, and touching film (Katie, you HAVE to see this!). It’s an ode to movie making, to a child’s view of the world, to life, to bonds, to storytelling, to fantasy… it’s remarkable. As Remi and I left the theatre, I remarked that I didn’t want to return to the real world. Sigh…

So much going on. Been meaning to post but all I come up with is lame. Proceed to read the lame.
You know, my head is close to exploding with everything that’s been going on. Work hectic, family stuff a little nuts, online headaches with a lame web host (any LUNers reading this, we will do what we can to get things back up before we leave), and trying to get everything ready for our massive crazy road trip.
We leave tomorrow. Over 4,000 miles in 17 days. Of course, there’s a heat wave and wildfires going on in many of the states we’re driving through. Good times.
Even with our usual bad luck when traveling (we were in NY for the one week they had a heat wave) we can’t wait. Super excited to see places we’ve never been and take a much needed break from work. And I get nephew therapy in 2 weeks. That’s always good for the soul.
In other happenings… Harry Potter was fun. Might be my favorite HP movie now. But I say that after every new HP movie.
We’re once again addicted to Psych now that season 1 is on DVD. Season 2 premieres tonight with Tim Curry guest starring as his own version of Simon Cowell. Even though we have to do a lot of packing and organizing of camping gear, we will not miss Shawn, Gus, and company.
Will try to post an update when we make it to Edmonton next week. Will try to write a post not as lame as this one. Stay cool out there!

Did I really pay to see Transformers? Oh yes… I did. I had no desire to see the movie but I went along hoping it would be at least dumb and fun.
It was only half that. The Transformers were one of Remi’s favorites when he was a kid. I never watched the cartoon. I was into Rainbow Brite. Seeing all the concept art and trailers, Remi knew this movie was going to break his little kid heart and not do justice to the characters and story he loved. But we both figured it would still have cool special effects and be loud and silly and over the top.
And it did have some fun moments. But not enough.
Oh Michael Bay. How does this guy still get work? I guess when they want a guy to deliver the Michael Bay cliches. And he did, in spades.
As a Transformers movie, we knew this was going to be bad. And it was. In the end it wasn’t much of a Transformers movie.
As a Michael Bay movie, this was silly and stupid with his usual military fetish, slow-mo dramatic shots, and swinging camera angles (Hot Fuzz parodied this brilliantly.) There was just not enough funny though. I actually got bored and fidgeted in my seat towards the end there. Plus too many blurry action shots were giving me a headache. And it really started to drag in spots.
I could really rip into this more but it’s not like I went into this thinking it was going to be any good. At least in that respect, it did not disappoint.

I’ve been in denial long enough. Thinking I wasn’t really part of it when I was already far too deep… that I was just supporting my husband’s hobby and going along with it.
It’s official. I’m a full fledged AFOL.
In the past week, I’ve gone to Legoland very willingly (where I have an annual pass, ahem, another big sign), toured the master builder workshop (!!), designed a very Lego themed website for Remi to show off his creations, received an order of my own bricks from Bricklink for a MOC I want to create, joined a Lego LJ community, researched traveling options to attend NWBrickCon… and it only now hit me when I almost squealed out loud when I saw this new set today.
I’m an idiot for thinking otherwise.

100 Movie Challenge: 100 movies in a year. Is it possible? Have I done this already without even knowing it? I’m curious. For now, I’m only going to track those movies that I netflix or watch in theatres and watch for the first time. The ones I catch on TV are just impossible to remember and well, I don’t think Lifetime movies really count. Ahem.
I may also do a book challenge but lately I haven’t been reading as much as I want. And I’m not really sure what books I’ve already finished this year. Would have to see if that is possible to retrieve in the old noggin’.
Now for the current list with my little ratings system (and pretty much everything from netflix will get something because otherwise I wouldn’t bother renting it). I may or may not add mini reviews if I feel up for it.
* = enjoyable
** = love
*** = super mad love
bold = why the hell did I miss seeing this in theatres?!

Excuse me while I have a serious fangirl squeeing moment.
The trailer for “August Rush” is online.
Dying, dying, dying some more.
We’ve been waiting for this one for a long while now… it comes out October 19. And the wait looks like it will be well worth it.
I haven’t been this excited for a trailer since “Across the Universe” or “The Golden Compass”. Okay, so those are not that long ago… But apart from those movies, “August Rush” is at the top of the list of movies I can’t wait to see this year.
It looks stunning. I love the cast and Jonny sings and plays guitar. You can hear him in the trailer.
It really looks incredible and the preview footage is getting great buzz online too.
Ok, off to watch it again. And again… and…

Posted photos from my recent trip to meet my new adorable nephew Brendan. Took some of the best photos of my nephew Evan… ever. He is currently obsessed with pirates. And makes a pretty fine one too.
Getting ready and excited for Coachella. Set times were announced. For the most part, there’s no big conflicts. I probably won’t be able to see much of the Rapture though. They also announced who is doing the signing tent. The Good, The Bad & The Queen signing! Yes! So thrilled! (Looks like they were removed from the list – damnit!)
Not too thrilled about being apart from Remi. This will be the longest we’ve been apart since he used to live in Vancouver. We used to go weeks and months between visits. Now, the longest we’ve gone is 3 nights. This time we’re going to spend 4 nights apart. He’s not going because of his aversion to heat and crowds of hipsters. Plus the price for tickets was not worth it for him. Sigh. I will miss my boy.
A week from tomorrow is Spider-Man 3. We already got our tickets for opening night at the Village. After that, there’s so many things going on in May… wedding, trip to Vegas, birthdays, Celebration, Pirates. No end in sight for a lack of something to do. Heh.

Laura is mad at me for not telling her about Jason Schwartzman’s new project/band/whatevs. Apparently Zooey Deschanel sings on it. But I simply had no clue. And according to Wikipedia, Jason was originally cast as the lead in Donnie Darko. WTF!? I also didn’t know about Wes Anderson’s new film. I’m so out of touch. The end.
