something you should know
To find out more, visit FansonFilm.com. I’ve seen an early version of the documentary and it’s fantastic from a Duranie point of view. I can’t wait until it’s available to buy on DVD.

I can’t believe it’s already December. Time flying faster than I care to think too hard about.
Behind on everything. Only bought one Christmas present yesterday. Have not yet ordered holiday cards. Yah. Really need to get started. Does not help that Super Mario Galaxy is the bee’s knees.
Six Apart sold LiveJournal. Can’t say I’m surprised. They didn’t know what they got themselves into. And it’s definitely good that the company who owns LJ, only focuses on LJ and can give it proper attention.
Been trying to post something all day but keep getting distracted. Either by learning why John Taylor is a bass playing god, why The Beef’s acting is so impressive*, why I need to own Duran Duran’s Electro Set on both DVD and CD, re-checking show times for The Golden Compass, getting excited about possibly seeing The Spice Girls Wednesday and definitely seeing Mel C Thursday, or you know… doing some actual work.
Other random tidbits… we had planned to go camping over Thanksgiving break in Joshua Tree but Remi got a cold that wouldn’t go away. Since we had wanted to do backcountry camping, there was no way we’d be able to manage. Instead, we explored closer to Los Angeles by scrambling on rocks and oogling pretty cars.
Now need to wrap head around that I’m going to be in Edmonton in 16 days. And it’s currently 1ºF but feels like -13ºF! Brrrrrrrrrr!
*I can’t call him anything but The Beef now. He’s totally my new Gwyneth.
Got back from NY last week. Whirlwind of getting caught up with work, finishing up a big project, spending time with my boy, and decompressing from my insane trip.
Eddie declared this the Duran Duran Bipolar Tour of 2007. First bad news, then good, then bad, then good. It was pretty ridiculous. Saturday was a day for disappointment and disbelief. Travel all the way to NY to hear about the strike and canceled shows. Sob on sidewalk in middle of Chinatown. What the fuck is going on?

You now can hear all of “Red Carpet Massacre” on VH1. I’d previously only heard this in a party held outside with not the best sound. And there were other factors to keep me distracted. So here’s some impressions, musings, *squeeing*. You’ve been warned.

I leave for NY in 11 days.
I’m trying not to be bummed that I’m not going to the “August Rush” concert. I make it harder for myself when I can’t stop listening to this beautiful song over and over. Le sigh.
But then I snap out of it. I mean, I’m going to New York City with my best buds where I’m going to see my favorite band on the planet perform my favorite music on Broadway. I’m going to not one, but three shows. The set lists for the preview shows DD did in Connecticut are killing me. I have to pinch myself to know I’m not dreaming this trip up.
Back to Jonny… I’m not sure what I think about him starring as the lead in a “comic book movie”. It’s an independently financed one. Which could be a very good or bad thing. At least he’s playing a magician and that has the potential to be very sexy (see “The Illusionist” and “The Prestige”).
In other news, today has been a weird day. I hurt my hand by smacking it against a big SUV side mirror that was sticking out while I was riding my bike. Of course the car wasn’t hurt, but my pinky finger swelled up and instantly turned blue. When I got to work, I managed to ice it down but it still stings and aches. I’m surprised this hasn’t happened before now. I’m such a dork. And work… well, this one project is going to destroy a little piece of my soul. I’ll just leave it at that.
This trip to NY can’t come at a better time.
Sidenote: Posted some new photos… BrickCon in Seattle, pumpkin time with my nephews, pumpkin carving with my friends, and when we went up north for my nephew’s baptism in August. I still haven’t finished putting up our road trip photos. Some day, some day.
It’s all set. I’m going to New York!!!!
I don’t think it’s hit me or feels real yet… I think I’m in shock that I’m actually doing this. I booked my flight (will be trying out Virgin America), got tickets to the shows (I’m going to the last two), and thanks to my amazing friend we have a place to stay. I’ll be hanging out in New York with fabulous friends and seeing my favorite band on earth play on Broadway. This is just CRAZY.
Something else that still doesn’t feel real is the listening party I went to for the new album. Here’s a few photos from that magical night.
NME has the scheduled line up for the London Live Earth gig up.
Duran is playing 4 songs. I’m half super excited, half scared. Rupert Everett is going to introduce them (yah!) and then they are playing:
Planet Earth (I knew they would do this) / Ordinary World (Again, knew Simon would bust this out) / Night Runner / Falling Down
The last 2 are new songs. Which is always tricky at big gigs like this. But Justin Timberlake AND Timbaland are going to perform with them. Ack.
They did brilliant during the Concert for Diana (though the sound mix seemed off for Dom). So I know they can do this… but I’m nervous and curious and scared. I can’t help it. My stomach is doing flip flops just thinking about it. I’m such a nerd for Duran Duran. Sigh.
Duran did a fans-only show in New York City last night and performed a new song…
“Night Runner”. Which is the song they did with Timberland and Justin Timberlake. I was scared to hear what the collaborations would end up sounding like… but it’s hot. Damn hot.
