On December 19, 2008, Ken Starr and the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund filed legal briefs defending the constitutionality of Prop 8 and seeking to nullify the 18,000 same-sex marriages conducted between May and November of 2008 across California.
Last Saturday was the march and rally at City Hall. It was an incredible day. Hilarious signs, cheerleaders, awesome friends, Chinese food, blistering hot weather, Lucy Lawless… the march was empowering, emotional, and an experience I’ll never forget.
PROP 8 PROTEST – NOVEMBER 15th 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST
Plans are afoot to organize protests against Prop. 8 at every major city hall in California Saturday — with the local focus being on L.A. City Hall (which was famous for those huge immigration rallies a few years ago).
Organizers are urging activists from around the country and Canada to converge on California and are hoping for tens of thousands of participants. Last week’s protests slowly grew in size from hundreds on the Westside Thursday to 12,000 on Saturday night in Silver Lake.
Protests are quickly being planned across the country at major city halls. The protest in LA is just getting organized, details are scant. The main idea is to be united across the country on civil rights for all. California is not the only state where the struggle continues. Anyone hear of any additional legit rallies or protests planned?
Posted photos from my recent trip to meet my new adorable nephew Brendan. Took some of the best photos of my nephew Evan… ever. He is currently obsessed with pirates. And makes a pretty fine one too.
Getting ready and excited for Coachella. Set times were announced. For the most part, there’s no big conflicts. I probably won’t be able to see much of the Rapture though. They also announced who is doing the signing tent. The Good, The Bad & The Queen signing! Yes! So thrilled! (Looks like they were removed from the list – damnit!)
Not too thrilled about being apart from Remi. This will be the longest we’ve been apart since he used to live in Vancouver. We used to go weeks and months between visits. Now, the longest we’ve gone is 3 nights. This time we’re going to spend 4 nights apart. He’s not going because of his aversion to heat and crowds of hipsters. Plus the price for tickets was not worth it for him. Sigh. I will miss my boy.
A week from tomorrow is Spider-Man 3. We already got our tickets for opening night at the Village. After that, there’s so many things going on in May… wedding, trip to Vegas, birthdays, Celebration, Pirates. No end in sight for a lack of something to do. Heh.
This last week was hectic (work, real life, taxes, the continuing clean up of our condo). Crazy, mind-exploding hectic. I keep wanting to post but then getting sidetracked by so many things competing for time and attention. I started this post days ago and only now am finishing it up. Continue reading
Yesterday, I got flowers. It’s the first time I’ve ever been sent flowers at work. A dozen red tulips… my favorite flower… from Remi. Totally unexpected. Complete surprise. And I’m not going to lie, it absolutely warmed my heart.
After work, we went to see Music & Lyrics. It was charming, cute, hilarious, a little romantic, and just a perfect way to cap the day.
I’m almost walking with no limp. But I still can’t straighten my bum leg completely. Or bend me knee all the way.
Physical therapy is coming along. It’s slow going. And frustrating. I want to be out and about like my old self again. I want to go camping. And hiking. Biking. Kayaking…
For Remi’s birthday I got him kayaking lessons for two. I’ve been sea kayaking before and I absolutely loved it. But I was 13. So you know, I’m rusty. Remi has been dying to try it out and wants us to take it up seriously. We both dream of taking a kayaking trip to Vancouver Island one day. Not sure when I’ll be fit enough though to take the lessons. Hopefully we can take them in May.
