magical & hidden

hidden door

Fairy tale land. Magical. Loire Valley. France.

Posted photos from Day 4 of our trip to France. Most don’t come close to doing justice to how beautiful and spectacular everything really was. Le sigh.

what château?

what château?

I’ve slowly started posting photos from my recent trip to France last month. It was an incredible adventure that now feels far away… as though it happened years ago instead of merely weeks.

I’ve posted a set of over 100 photos from the first day. I tried to edit. We took over 300 that day! I don’t even know how many we took throughout the trip.

The above is one gem from that marvelous first day… the weather was gorgeous and we stumbled upon this incredible château right on the side of the highway. We came around a bend and pulled over when we saw the turnout. I hadn’t seen it as I was concentrating on driving. I didn’t know where Château de Montpoupon (saying this outloud is really fun) was as I got out of the car and asked my husband, “Where’s this alleged château?”

Turning around, I was met with a beautiful and magical sight. One of many experienced during this trip that I’ll be sharing.

découverte et d’aventure

This video makes me cry. For all sorts of reasons, mostly happy ones.

You need to see the full HD version on YouTube to really appreciate it.

Yesterday I purchased 2 things that will help fulfill a long held dream… an amazingly comfortable pair of mary janes and a Moleskine Paris notebook.

This year, I may not be seeing Blur in London, but there’s another dream trip I’ll be doing instead. Remi and I are traveling to Paris this Spring. We’re going… no what if’s or maybes. We are going. Planning is already underway.

If you’ve traveled there before, any tips, recommendations, suggestions are most welcome!

New Orleans

green doors The 2nd week of June I visited the city of New Orleans for the 2nd time. I’d been there before in October 2006 for Duran Duran. This time around I went for work. Conference. Presentation. Kept me busy. I did manage to have an afternoon to myself to walk around the French Quarter… shop, take photos, gaze at the amazing colors and buildings, and go a little back in time.

There’s something about walking through the Quarter (minus Bourbon St.) that feels like being in another time. You pass a doorway and peek into secret courtyards. Gas lamps still burn. Ferns hanging from balconies. Boys playing loud brass instruments on the steps of St. Louis Cathedral.

Cafe Amelie I also managed to grab lunch at Cafe Amelie. It was closed during my first visit, but I really wanted to find it again. It’s tucked into a beautiful courtyard. They serve traditional fare and even absinthe. I ate a yummy sandwich, sipped on freshly squeeze lemonade, and read a book. It was a perfect way to cool off in the shade and not be too bothered by the humidity

All too short of a trip. Very exhausting (via work ate at Nola and rode a steamboat.) But I’m glad I was able to go on this trip and experience a little more French Quarter magic.

Happy New Year!

pft

It’s been nice having a break, but now back to work. Back to real world. Slowly posting photos from our trip to Edmonton and still posting photos from our road trip last summer.

We haven’t figured out our big trip for 2008 yet. We haven’t figured out a lot of things. But I’m not worried. On New Year’s Eve we had some friends over to hang out. And I realized during that night how happy and content I am with who I am and where my life is going. Sure, there’s always room for changes, new experiences, more traveling, more things I want to see and do. But it’s all coming together and if you can’t enjoy what you have in the moment, then when is the right time?

On top of that, I think it just really struck me that by this time next year, we’ll be hosting another get together for New Year’s Eve in our own new house. This is the year we’re really going to make it happen. And I can’t wait.

where is the life that I recognize

Got back from NY last week. Whirlwind of getting caught up with work, finishing up a big project, spending time with my boy, and decompressing from my insane trip.

Eddie declared this the Duran Duran Bipolar Tour of 2007. First bad news, then good, then bad, then good. It was pretty ridiculous. Saturday was a day for disappointment and disbelief. Travel all the way to NY to hear about the strike and canceled shows. Sob on sidewalk in middle of Chinatown. What the fuck is going on?

you’ll always be my queen of tumble down

You now can hear all of “Red Carpet Massacre” on VH1. I’d previously only heard this in a party held outside with not the best sound. And there were other factors to keep me distracted. So here’s some impressions, musings, *squeeing*. You’ve been warned.
