Start of this month was full of Discworld goodness.
Start of October will be full of Lego goodness.
In between: amazing Flogging Molly show at the Greek, work, work, work, catching up on TV shows (Dexter, I’m not digging this Lila chick) or getting into new ones (thanks Flash Forward for giving me goosebumps), and lots of building, building, building.

Instead of dwelling on some crap going on right now, I’m finally posting a variation of this ship meme. Instead of 7 ships, I’m picking 8. I like to be even.
1. List your top seven eight character ships
2. Put all of them in order of your love for them; 7 to 1 1 to 8, 1 being your main fixation.
3. Name the movie/show that they’re in.
4. Supply photos for said people.
5. Tag seven people

- Michael and Maria, Roswell
Michael and Maria were really the first ship that I actively sought out fan fic, wrote my own, created sites for… to this day, I can still lose hours online by finding an old classic fic and rereading it. They had sizzling chemistry and a powerful connection. They were it for each other, no matter how much they drove one another crazy.
- Jackie and Hyde, That 70’s Show
Hilarious, feisty, heart warming, real. Their chemistry was evident from the very first season and I was sold. It took awhile for anything to happen between them, but the sparks were always there. And in my world, season 8 does not exist.
- Lucas and Peyton, One Tree Hill
Brooding artist + brooding athlete = true love. I love me some angst and this couple delivers on that from the pilot on. Season 6 premieres in a couple weeks and I can’t wait to see how their relationship will continue to unfold.
- Angela and Jordan, My So-Called Life
Sigh… the fantasy of crushing on the hottest guy in school. And then he actually notices you. They were flawed, awkward, sweet, messed up, and hot. It wasn’t hard for me to be obsessed from the first episode until the last.
- Jesse and Celine, Before Sunrise/Sunset
Romantic. Real. Beautiful. I adore Before Sunrise to pieces. It’s one of my favorite movies. I still remember seeing this my freshman year of college. I took a bus into town to go and see this. I went by myself, during a time that I felt very disconnected from the people I’d met in college. I was completely charmed watching two complete strangers make that ultimate connection, wondering if that would ever happen to me. And when they announced the same team was going to do a sequel? I was thrilled. I was on the edge of my seat trembling when the lights went down in the front row of a theatre with Ethan, Julie, and Richard sitting not that many rows from me. Before Sunset delivered, exceeding all expectations I may have had. It added more layers to this aching romance and these believable characters.
- Dylan and Kelly, 90210
I have no idea why I was so drawn to the forbidden couple of 90210. There was something about these two lost souls that just grabbed me. It could also be that I couldn’t stand Brenda and Dylan was hot. I didn’t follow the show past Dylan leaving… but I did tune in a few times once he came back to the show. And I loved that it ended with Dylan and Kelly back together. I doubt they are going to reconcile that ending into the new version of the show, so I have very little interest in watching it. That and the posters for it (on so many billboards and bus stops around Los Angeles) are freaking dumb.
- Felicity and Ben, Felicity
Another story that involved a long time crush, where the crush finally noticed the quiet and smart girl. Their chemistry from the pilot on had me always rooting for them. They had lots of ups and downs during the run of the show. What was interesting was that for most of it, they did manage to stay together and work through their problems. It wasn’t typical, it didn’t always make sense, some issues were out of character, but it was mostly well done. And they did end the show on the right note.
- Rory and Dean, Gilmore Girls
A first love told in a touching, realistic, and charming way. The writers ruined things from season 2 on, but there’s something about that magical first season that I still adore to this day.

So much going on. Been meaning to post but all I come up with is lame. Proceed to read the lame.
You know, my head is close to exploding with everything that’s been going on. Work hectic, family stuff a little nuts, online headaches with a lame web host (any LUNers reading this, we will do what we can to get things back up before we leave), and trying to get everything ready for our massive crazy road trip.
We leave tomorrow. Over 4,000 miles in 17 days. Of course, there’s a heat wave and wildfires going on in many of the states we’re driving through. Good times.
Even with our usual bad luck when traveling (we were in NY for the one week they had a heat wave) we can’t wait. Super excited to see places we’ve never been and take a much needed break from work. And I get nephew therapy in 2 weeks. That’s always good for the soul.
In other happenings… Harry Potter was fun. Might be my favorite HP movie now. But I say that after every new HP movie.
We’re once again addicted to Psych now that season 1 is on DVD. Season 2 premieres tonight with Tim Curry guest starring as his own version of Simon Cowell. Even though we have to do a lot of packing and organizing of camping gear, we will not miss Shawn, Gus, and company.
Will try to post an update when we make it to Edmonton next week. Will try to write a post not as lame as this one. Stay cool out there!

Busy, busy, busy. I should start all my posts the same way.
Going to Vegas on Sunday for a few days… It’s going to be fun since I don’t have any reason for going other than tagging along to attend some nice dinners while my guy works a couple hours each day. It will finally be a nice break I’ve been wanting for ages. Plus, keep trying to find time to do a proper Coachella write-up… and you know there was the Phantom Planet show last week (which rocked). And I keep not finding time. Hopefully, I will also get a little sparetime to continue research/planning for our massive road trip in July.
Speaking of… Continue reading

Snagged from Val via Ryka:
What is your One True Pairing?
This is a difficult question since there are many pairings that I ship. Movie wise I’d go with Celine/Jesse from the Before Sunrise/Sunset movies. Book wise I’d go with Lyra/Will from His Dark Materials. As for TV, there have been so many. A favorite is Jackie/Hyde from That 70’s Show. Overall though, I have to go with Michael/Maria from Roswell. I’m still shipping that couple… their love story was passionate, funny, emotional, real, and so sweet to watch. I can’t get enough even now. I still read and write fan fiction… plus now that the show is on DVD, I can rewatch my favorite scenes whenever I need an escape.
What is your “guilty pleasure” pairing?
Obi-Wan/Padme. I know it’s not something that will ever happen in the movies but I’ve read some fan fiction that is really well done. I like the idea of this pairing even if I know it’s not logical.
What is one pairing you absolutely refuse to ship?
Pacey/Joey from Dawson’s Creek, Rory/Jess from Gilmore Girls, and Felicity/Noel from Felicity. Oh, and Angela/Brian from My So-Called Life. The series finale of Dawson’s Creek does not exist to me. That show ruined characters when it started off so promising. Gilmore Girls did the same with Dean, the writers completely ignoring the character they wrote in season 1. It’s still painful to see what they have done since then. I never bought into Felicity being with anyone but Ben. And Angela had no sparks with Brian. Ever. It was all about Jordan Catalano.
What is one pairing you’re interested in, but don’t ship?
Maybe John/Aeryn from Farscape since Val has talked them up so much. Or maybe Buffy/Spike. I was always intrigued by that but never really watched Buffy much.
What is one pairing you used to ship, but don’t any more?
Okay, I’m dating myself with this one but have to go with Brenda/Dylan from 90210. I liked them a lot at first. But then Kelly and Dylan’s romance came along and changed everything. Otherwise, I can’t really think of any couple I used to love and don’t anymore. Even till the bitter end, no matter how messed up the writers made the show, I still loved Dawson/Joey. Season 1 of Dawson’s Creek is the only season that really matters.
What is one pairing you could be convinced to ship if it was done properly?
Possibly Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione from Harry Potter. The thought of both couples bores me completely. I’m much more interested in a Harry/Hermione pairing especially in the movies where they have such chemistry. But right now, the obvious pairings just seem too predictable and boring to me. Plus I’m not really a big fan of Ginny or Ron.

I’m still alive. Just haven’t felt like posting. Things are happening… life is moving along but I’m just not very motivated right now. Like I’ve lost a spark or voice that feels natural. I’ve tried to start several posts since my last one. Each one never gets finished. I feel so muddled right now. Tired. Lonely. Stressed. Anxious. So here’s the best I can do at the moment. Some random thoughts that have crept into my head or have filled my thoughts these past few weeks.
- That 70’s Show will end after next year’s season. Sad.
- Money. Lack of money sucks.
- I think I’m finally going to get roped into jury duty.
- Teen Witch is an evil movie. No matter if I have somewhere to go or if I have better things to do, if I’m flipping channels and it’s on, I drop everything.
- Dominic Monaghan is really unattractive. His under bite and weird way his mouth juts out and moves to the side when he talks bugs me. This is pathetic of me, I know.
- My new crush is Matthew Goode. So hot. Go see Chasing Liberty. It will make you smile. Unless you’re a co-co-cold hearted snake.
- The new PP album is radness. It’s such a step up from their previous work and I really adore that it captures the energy they have when live. Their instore at Tower on the 10th was fun. I continue to love Sam. But it was too damn hot out. It’s supposed to be winter right? Bleh. That’s Los Angeles for you. Gorgeous 80 degree weather in the middle of January.
- Since after Christmas I’ve been immersed in the world of the His Dark Materials trilogy. I’ve never been so emotionally invested in a series of novels before. To the point where I would have to put the book down before getting to certain parts, afraid of what might happen, or because I had to calm myself as I sobbed uncontrollably. They simply floored me and made me reflect on life, death, religion, faith, and love. They will sit with me, in my thoughts and heart, for a long time to come.

I forgot to mention two shows I recently went to. I saw Majandra Delfino perform at the Knitting Factory on the 3rd of this month. It turned out to be an enormously fun night. Majandra was pretty impressive. I wasn’t sure how she would sound live… Brendan Fehr and Nick Wechsler were there and I had a lot of fun talking with them. I have not yet seen the photos I took with them as they are on my friend’s camera. But I’ll post them soon, I hope, cause I hear they turned out really cute. Such sweet, down to earth, and unpretentious guys. Really very cool.
Also saw Sondre Lerche twice this past Monday. First, he performed at Amoeba Records and did a signing. Then he performed at the Knitting Factory a little later on. I’m glad I went to both because it showed me different sides to this young, talented performer. He really won me over. Granted, I love his album and was hoping he would be even better live… and he did not disappoint. At Amoeba he talked a lot more with the audience and was very funny… it’s always weird seeing a performance at Amoeba. The flicking of CD cases throughout the large space competes with the music being played but Sondre held his own. He just oozes this lovely and adorable charm and puts you in a good mood. The Knitting Factory was a more intimate setting. Instead of the sounds of CD cases knocking against one another, the rudeness of folks talking up a storm by the back bar where competing with Sondre and his acoustic guitar. At one point between songs, a man yelled very loudly for folks to shut the fuck up and give this guy a break. Everyone actually into the show cheered. Sondre blushed and thanked him. This didn’t really shut the jerks up for very long. But in the end, it didn’t matter. I had a smile on my face the whole time he performed. Just Sondre and his guitar. Impressing the heck out of almost everyone there. Photos will be posted one of these days. I promise.

Two things have so far made my day.
American Cinematheque is doing a Steve McQueen retrospective at the Egyptian. I want to go and see every single screening. I think I’m definitely going to see The Great Escape, Bullitt, The Thomas Crown Affair, and The Magnificent Seven. I wish they were playing Love With the Proper Stranger as that’s my favorite Steve film… but just to see anything on the big screen with him is going to be such a treat.
And season one of Felicity is coming out on DVD. Oh yeah. I can’t wait to get The Fugue. Simon Rex. Eli. Yum. Plus the last episodes of that season where full of Felicity and Ben chemistry lessons.
I didn’t go to see Haven last night… which I guess turned out to be good since they didn’t end up performing. Poor Iwan got all of his wisdom teeth pulled and has been out of commission for a while.
HOORAY! New That 70’s Show episodes tonight. A full hour of Hyde and Jackie goodness!
