yah

Busy, busy, busy. I should start all my posts the same way.

Going to Vegas on Sunday for a few days… It’s going to be fun since I don’t have any reason for going other than tagging along to attend some nice dinners while my guy works a couple hours each day. It will finally be a nice break I’ve been wanting for ages. Plus, keep trying to find time to do a proper Coachella write-up… and you know there was the Phantom Planet show last week (which rocked). And I keep not finding time. Hopefully, I will also get a little sparetime to continue research/planning for our massive road trip in July.

Speaking of… Continue reading

this is a ballad for the good times and all the dignity we had

Um. I’m still alive. Just been majorly busy. And getting a bit sick.

I had to finish this gift I was making by mother’s day for my mom. Work has been incredibly hectic. More than usual right now. So much so, I was not able to take off Friday and go to Jay Leno for Ewan. And because of traffic, I didn’t make it in time to see Ewan leave the studio. Ah well.

I spent most of last week finally redesigning and revamping my Jude Law fansite. This has been something I’ve needed to do for months and months. I came up with several discarded designs until finally coming up with the right one. I also did the entire site in PHP. I recently revamped the JRMfansite using PHP. And my first real stab at PHP was redesigning and restarting Glow. It’s going to be a while before all my sites get going with PHP but I’m very happy I’ve started to get the hang of using it. It makes life so much easier (I’m more knowledgeable and comfortable using ASP but most webhosting servers do not have that capablity). Plus I’ve almost completely changed all of my fanlistings to using either PHP or Megabook. I just need to convert one more… and ahem… I’m signed up for 4 more fanlistings that I need to complete.

Yeah. I’ve got issues.

And to top it all off… Blur are trying to kill me! Well… either that or get more money out of me. According to Pollstar (via Val), they are going to play Seattle June 20 and then Vancouver June 21. (Along with Vegas on June 12.) So looks like I’ll be visiting Remi that weekend. Already got pit tickets for Xfest just to see them. Hot Hot Heat were added to the bill. Just as long as they don’t play at the same time, June 15th will be a radness filled day.

Oh… anyone got details regarding the American Idol final to be held at the Universal Amphitheater?

I’ve decided I’m regressing back to my childhood. Well… with my reading habits at least. I’ve been re-reading some of my favorite books from when I was a kid. I’ve zipped through The Westing Game and From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Now I’m working on Lord of The Flies which I have not read in ages and ages. Catching the movie on Bravo the other day made me pull out my old copy.

when you walk in all the fairy boys are pale and nervous

The Mellowdrone show on Wednesday was lovely. Though the set was too short (for good reason it turns out), Jonathan once again impressed me. I felt this was one of his strongest and more playful performances I’ve seen in a while.

It’s certainly something to be surrounded by new fans and curious folks in a packed Troubadour who are all there to see Mellowdrone. Vastly different from the times I’ve seen him in a small bar with 12 other people where he goes on to sample my friend’s laugh and use it in a song.

If you have not checked out his EP, what are you waiting for? You can download all the songs on his website or buy a copy of the EP online for darn cheap.

Coachella is tomorrow. I’m so jumpy and excited about it. They announced the schedule. Only one major conflict for me… Hot Hot Heat conflicts with Blur and that is so wrong. And it looks like I’ll be dancing to Interpol as it all ends.

Speaking of Blur… check out their new video for Crazy Beat on MTV of all places! Swoon. And check out there performance on Jo Whiley. And apparently, in a LA radio interview today, it was mentioned that one Alex James is lost in Mexico without his passport. And this happens often. No wonder he had trouble getting into this country. Let’s see if he turns up on the Craig Kilborn show tonight.

Be still my Duranie heart. Finally. Duran Duran are doing 4 shows in Japan in July. More dates are expected. And damn, they better announce more soon or I’m seriously considering going into further debt to make my first trip to Japan. No joke. These shows will be the first time all 5 original members have performed together since Live Aid in 1985. That’s 18 years! I guess it’s kind of fitting that they will play in Japan first (possibly) as that is where Simon, Nick and Warren played their last show together as Duran Duran.

The box set (all their singles from 81-85) is due out June 10 in the US, May 12th everwhere else. So I’m thinking they may do some things in the US in June too to help promote its release. Right?

For all those who were concerned or just merely curious, Miss Modern Age made it to LA and is alive and currently sleeping on my couch.

Too much is happening! Just found out about a Starsailor show too. I had no idea! Their website is not keeping me up to date. And I think it’s already sold out. I’m so sad. Going to try at noon to fax in for tickets. I need to go to that.

Trying to get myself ready for tonight as well. I hope it all goes ok… I’m quite nervous but trying to calm myself about seeing Ewan finally after all this time. He was on the KTLA morning news earlier. I set the VCR to tape it and I hope I got it all as it apparently was quite interesting and like when does Ewan go on a local morning news show? He is really helping out Baz with all this publicity he is doing. He never does this much even with Star Wars. KTLA is really popular here in Los Angeles too. I think it even beats the Today show in this market. So it makes sense he’d go on it and I’m sure it was hilarious.

AAHHH!! Too much! Going on overload pretty soon… this years has been nuts!

somewhat sane

So much has been going on with me it’s a wonder I’m still somewhat sane.

Last week the Moulin Rouge soundtrack came out. It’s incredible. I am going to have serious heart problems when I watch the film tomorrow night.

Last Tuesday was definitely new music day. I bought 4 new cds that were released that day. Weezer, Joe McIntyre, The Go-Go’s and Depeche Mode. I’ve been too busy to listen to any of them except for Weezer and Joe’s. So far, amazing! Joe sounds great and is adorable. Weezer rocks! So glad they have come back.

They’ve been filming a movie near where I work. It’s so frustrating. They filmed in our building a couple of days and one day while we were in the office. They kept telling us to be quiet. I was actually sshhed. I was so annoyed I told the dude whatever and kept talking. Jake Busey is like 8 feet tall. Had to walk past him when I went to the bathroom. And Adam Garcia is pretty nice looking. He was walking around our desks cause I guess he was bored. They both wore horrible outfits. Orange band uniforms or something. The office was so not starstruck it was funny. But it will be neat to see our office in the finished film.

So the official Duran Duran website finally made the announcement that Warren has left and that the original band members are getting back together for an album and tour. I’m still nervous and still feel sad about the whole thing. But if I see Roger Taylor next year, well… I can’t even begin to imagine.

Roswell got cancelled by the stupidest network somehow still alive but got picked up official by UPN. YEAH!!!! There is still hope! And there is going to be a full 22 episode 3rd season! Now I can watch the season finale knowing that. I have to have the kleenex ready cause the preview made me tear up so I know this is going to be emotional to watch. I can’t wait.

Life is so… up in the air for me. Too much is happening and so much is unclear. I miss my love. I know I’m not healthy, emotionally or physically. I am certainly not happy being apart from the man I want to spend the rest of my life with. I just hope that we finally get a little luck and things start going our way for once. But no matter what, I’m not giving up.

sadness

Someone I briefly knew online, Anna-Marie, passed away last month. It was a shock to find out and very sad. Anna was the sweetest. Her emails always put a smile to my face. She was a fellow Ewan fan and webmaster. She ran a great site on Ewan. And her presence in the online community of fans will forever be missed. Maureen set up a tribute page for her in order for people to express their thoughts. It’s really lovely.

first real post

Ok so here’s my first real post… so much has been happening this month. Life’s been flying by… all too fast.

I haven’t been updating my Ewan site in like forever. Finally working my way back into doing that. I started to lose interest. Got tired of it all. But I’m not giving up my baby just yet. I just need time to just get away from it. I’ve been running that site for 4 years now. It’s taken up a huge chunk of my life. And from time to time, I need a low… a chance to remember why I run the site. To find the fun again…

In the last month or so, I’ve had a couple of odd celeb sightings. First, I went to see Me, Myself and Irene at the Beverly Center the weekend it came out with my boyfriend. And I spot Breckin Meyer. With Ryan Phillippe. And Reese Witherspoon. They all ended up sitting in the same row as us. It was weird because while I think Ryan is beautiful and he looked way better in person, I was more in awe of Reese because I so admire her as an actress.

Then last week I’m at the Beverly Center again (seriously, this is a place I rarely go to) and see Brendan Fehr and Majandra Delfino. They both walked right by me in this narrow corridor. Again, while I find Brendan attractive, I was more in awe of seeing Majandra cause I think she’s so rad. But it was also odd because these are the people in the photos I used to design this site. It was just plain bizarre to walk by two people who are on my website. And that’s exactly the thought that went through my head when I saw them.

I’ve also been mad sick. First a cold. Then it goes away and then one night sleeping in a hotel room where the air conditioner is on full blast and I’ve got a cold again. Runny nose, headaches, so unfun. But I’m recovering. I have to! I’m going to Magic Mountain tomorrow. And…

I’m gearing up for my week of Duran Duran. Starting this Monday night I will be going to see the guys 6 nights in a row at the House of Blues. I’m nuts. It’s going to be like Survivor. I hope I can make it since I’ll still be going to work and I’m still not 100% physically. I know I’m insane but I can’t help it. Love those Duran guys. It’s going to be such an experience. I know it’s going to be exhausting. I know I will lose my voice. But I can’t wait!

the Phantom Menace

I saw the Phantom Menace at 12:01 am this morning. I was a part of the group waiting in line outside of the Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood for 6 weeks. Was it worth it? Frankly, yes. Just to see this movie with this group of people who’ve become like a family this past month and a half. Just to see this movie sitting next to a 4 year old who laughed and clapped and loved it (Timmy, you were the coolest guy in line!).

I knew there would be people who would hate this movie. How can a movie live up to the countless expectations of most of the people in this country? It can only be what it was. An overall fun and amazing experience. I had grumblings about lack of character development and not enough of the Queen and Obi-Wan, who both rocked! And the ending sequence of the film really picked up and felt like the same old magic of the first three movies. Darth Maul was the perfect villain. As was Darth Sidious.

I don’t think this film will bomb. Too many people are curious. And by the end of the film, I wanted to know more. I had so many questions that were left unanswered. This movie was made for little kids who are going to love this. And this movie set up the next two. I liked it, loved parts of it, was disappointed by other parts of it, but I definitely want to see it again, if only to watch Ewan McGregor in action. He was awesome and he did not disappoint at all. I know I’m biased but really, he was beyond cool in this. He should have been it in more or rather, the movie should have focused on him more. Obi-Wan that is. Obi-Wan is such an intriguing character but you don’t get enough of him in this… This was such visual eye candy. I know I missed a lot the first time around.

This was an incredible experience for me. Not the movie. But the line. Waiting in line for 6 weeks on and off, when I had time to put in hours. I made friendships I know will continue. I made connections with people I will cherish and carry with me. I never expected that. I never expected that I would gain as much as I have from this whole adventure. And I would do it all over it again. Without a doubt.
