love flows like water, I burn like oil

I forgot to mention two shows I recently went to. I saw Majandra Delfino perform at the Knitting Factory on the 3rd of this month. It turned out to be an enormously fun night. Majandra was pretty impressive. I wasn’t sure how she would sound live… Brendan Fehr and Nick Wechsler were there and I had a lot of fun talking with them. I have not yet seen the photos I took with them as they are on my friend’s camera. But I’ll post them soon, I hope, cause I hear they turned out really cute. Such sweet, down to earth, and unpretentious guys. Really very cool.

Also saw Sondre Lerche twice this past Monday. First, he performed at Amoeba Records and did a signing. Then he performed at the Knitting Factory a little later on. I’m glad I went to both because it showed me different sides to this young, talented performer. He really won me over. Granted, I love his album and was hoping he would be even better live… and he did not disappoint. At Amoeba he talked a lot more with the audience and was very funny… it’s always weird seeing a performance at Amoeba. The flicking of CD cases throughout the large space competes with the music being played but Sondre held his own. He just oozes this lovely and adorable charm and puts you in a good mood. The Knitting Factory was a more intimate setting. Instead of the sounds of CD cases knocking against one another, the rudeness of folks talking up a storm by the back bar where competing with Sondre and his acoustic guitar. At one point between songs, a man yelled very loudly for folks to shut the fuck up and give this guy a break. Everyone actually into the show cheered. Sondre blushed and thanked him. This didn’t really shut the jerks up for very long. But in the end, it didn’t matter. I had a smile on my face the whole time he performed. Just Sondre and his guitar. Impressing the heck out of almost everyone there. Photos will be posted one of these days. I promise.

Two Signings…

So I’m back… and I hate it. I hate being in this city I normally adore. Cause I’ve left so much of myself back in Vancouver. Trying to throw myself back into work. And I have plenty to keep me busy.

Yesterday I managed to go to two instores in one night… The Roswell cast did an instore with Sensefield performing. Got my Roswell soundtrack signed by Shiri, Adam, Nick, Majandra and Brendan. It was sort of weird… I was the very first person in line thanks to Sue who is a pro and knew where to stand when she got there. I didn’t really know what to say to any of them and I wasn’t nervous or anything. When I saw Nick, I felt like blurting out the Viper Room story but otherwise, I just said lots of ‘hi’, ‘thanks’, ‘nice to meet you’. Lame. It turned out to be a crazy fun night but I just felt off… I had fun but I felt like I was going through the motions. I wasn’t all there. Erica wanted to track down Sensefield after and we did. They were very nice guys.

Then we bolted and went to Aron’s to the Phantom Planet instore. We get there, walk into the parking lot and ended up having a great spot by the side of the stage. Lots of usual ‘people’ were there and some unusual… Rooney boys, Johnny Knoxville, Perry Farrell. The set was a blast… though the crowd was pretty lame. Only the usual hardcore suspects showed the love. Sam kicked some major bass ass. During whole songs, I just concentrated on his brilliant playing. Alex gave a great vocal performance. Giving a lot and then at the end, he climbed up on this lighting rig ala Damon Albarn. Though, this was a temp stage so I was feeling a little scared for the boy. He said he got a little electrocuted by it when I asked him if he enjoyed that later. It was weird to go through the actual signing part afterwards. I wasn’t all that into it since I’d rather talk to them afterwards. Joked around with Darren… and Jason went nuts and did a self-portrait for me when he signed my CD booklet. Crazy kid.

The night ended at one of my favorite restaurants all because of the amazing Chinese shrimp salad… and then driving home, calling my boy, and curling up in bed all alone and miserable. La la la la.
